Cover Letter

April 18, 2019 The Obama Foundation Washington, DC

Dear Chief of Communications: I am writing to express my interest in the Communications and Media Relations Associate position at The Obama Foundation now available in Washington, DC.

I attended Indiana University majoring in Communications using my Post 9-11 GI Bill from the military. While serving in the US Air Force, I held multiple roles within the Public Affairs career field. I have more than eight years of experience as Chief of Community Relations, Media Relations, Social Media manager, Website Manager, Newspaper Editor, and have produced award winning photography, writing, and graphics illustration.

I enjoy working as a part of a team to reach a common goal, using both interpersonal communication skills or working independently in a timely and accurate manner. I have experience coordinating and maintaining relationships with media, government agencies, civic leaders, schools, and other groups. I have strong computer skills, including website design, social media, and various other software programs used to communicate professionally.

My military background brings a unique set of skills to the foundation. I am both an active duty and reserve veteran, military spouse, and medically discharged member, who can speak first hand on a wide range of topics. I am highly driven, dependable, trustworthy, confident, and believe I would be the best person for the job.

You can reach me for an interview, or to discuss more opportunities at 843-300-0000 or by email at

Sincerely, Thomas Brading
